reduce, reuse, recycle

Fact#1: Katie is obsessed with coloring right now.

Fact #2: Maddie is a crayon wrapper peeler (which is the bane of my existence these days, wrapper peels being every where seemingly all. the. time.)

However, together these two facts made for a good project this week.

I had been saving crayon bits for awhile, but had forgotten about them until I saw this post over at small burst.

(The cookie cutter in the cupcake pan so did not work btw)

While Katie was initially enamored by our new crayons her excitement quickly faded when she realized these new crayons did not have a point.

She is all about coloring in the lines which is difficult to do with a Reese's-shaped crayon.

So we tried making crayon bark instead in attempt to create better points.

There should be a crayon mold for this specific purpose. It would be like a candy mold, but metal so it could go in the oven.

I looked online and didn't see one for sale -- perhaps I should invent this and it will secure my goal of never having to go into an office ever again.

I'm so glad you were able to try this project. Wasn't it fun? I love, love the crayon bark. Looks really cool and you were able to achieve the sharp ends. Super idea! I used the mini cupcake cups so they would be easier to maneuver for smaller hands but I agree, you should make a prototype of a crayon mold! What about looking for a crayon cookie cutter and cutting it into the crayon bark before it cools? Hmmm....

What a super awesome kids craft activity! I also really like the bark ;) and the colored reeses crayon cups make me hungry! (Doing it in brown and trying to pass it off on April Fools as the real thing would be funny and would fit right in with the things you did this last year)

There are some things on the market you could get. This one is a little pricey but this one looks like it would work well:

You could also go for the name brand Crayola version:

I am tempted to do this with all my little bits of crayons!
