it's loud in hear right now

While I do enjoy thrifting, flea markets and the sort, garage sales usually aren't my thing because -- well, to be frank I'm not a morning person.

Last weekend we somehow ended up at a garage sale and on a whim, bought a piano.

Now, while the purchase was definitely a spur-of-the-moment thing, a handful of conversations had taken place about getting one. We knew exactly where we'd put it, etc.

We had been thinking about how to incorporate music in a fun way into our house. All the stars aligned that morning: Papa was with us, the price was right, it's perfect size for our tiny house, the guy selling it had a truck and was uber-willing to bring it over.

I need to get it tuned, but so far I really like having it. I've been fingering out old sonatas that have been lingering in my mind for years.

I put little post-its on the keys so Katie can finger out some tunes.

But I can't seem to play without ending up with sticky notes all over my fingers. I don't want to put actual stickers on the keys, so I may have to brainstorm another solution.

Needless to say the Little Wickies love it.

Would love to hear any tips you might have regarding how you incorporate music into your family's lives, if you teach your kids music yourselves, etc.

hubs family is SUPER musical. I mean we're talking family ho-downs every couple of years with banjo's and the likes. My FIL even wins the karaoke competitions on every single cruise they go on. Highly intimating to me....who, uh, played the flute for 2 years and can only play mary had a little lamb on the piano! So, Jared plays the guitar for the kids, and has taught the kids bible song upon bible song that he grew up with. Ones I had no idea even existed! So, music runs in their blood...or at least that's what I tell myself....

My husband is very musical and Bridget started piano lessons last month. Her teacher is not very nice. I force Bridget to practice, Tiger-Mom style. I love it.

Bach, Chopin, Schubert, Debussy,
Schumann, these were household names when I was growing up. My mother was a classical pianist and would always play, especially on Sunday afternoons. We grew up appricating classical music and learning how to play them too. I always felt it important to have kids surrounded by good music. Sadley I doubt we will ever have a piano in our home which is why I bought a violin (smaller instrument thus easier to lug around) a few years ago and started to learn how to play it so my daughter will grow up with music in the home. I think that is awesome that you bought one on a whim. Your kids will so love it!

A piano is great. We have a full-size weighted keyboard, but it's a pain waiting for the computer to boot up and and for the program to start (some complicated setup of Ryan's -- he's all digital). But I love how you can just walk up to the piano and start banging away.

I had a baby grand piano in my house growing up and it moved with me to all my homes as a grown up. We didn't bring it to Rocklin and I miss it. My family is ridiculously musical. Ask me about Charity Churchmouse someday ... I think there is a video out there somewhere with me with mouse ears and high heels. ;)
