After months of pondering and much discussion with a number of people I finally bought a 50mm lens.
I'm liking the clarity (prior muffin shots) and portraits you can do with it.
I took some picture of my friend Katie's baby the other day and was pretty happy with the results.
Baby E was not happy anywhere but on mama's lap, but with a low aperture setting I was able to get some decent shots without seeing too much of mom.

Ohhh! I have been debating the 50mm lens too? Which one did you get? I start researching then get overwhelmed and then get excited by all the great choices and then I just give up in confusion. :(
love my 50mm lense! I just bought the lense that was in the "family"...so, since I had a Sony dslr, I bought a Sony lense. I use it the most for sure!
But they come in 1.2, 1.4 and 1.8, right? That's where I get confused about what I want/need?!?!
Makes me want to get one now. I've been toying with the idea...I'll probably put it on my Christmas list. Which one did you end up getting (I'm confused like Satsia)...
I got a 1.8 as the price jump to 1.4 was a bit steep for my budget. I ended up buying a used one on eBay so it was even more "affordable" (I paid $80) I tried someone's 1.4 at a workshop I went to and I really liked it but the price jumps to the $400 range for that.
You can buy a new 1.8 for ~$120.
I have a Canon Rebel, so I bought a canon lens.
I also bought mine refurbed......it was $100 bucks cheaper! The next telephoto lens is on my christmas list for sure!! I discovered it really is a must have for sports and kids.
my ALL TIME favorite lens!
Beautiful pics of Miss E Becky!
those results came out amazing!
