arg, matey

Each day when I pick Katie up from school she hands me the tiniest paper cup.

I placed a crayon there so you can see just how small the cup is

Inside of it...

Treasure.

Apparently the school scatters colored rocks and other such little things in the sand.

She is now always on the hunt for treasure in and out of school.

The other day we went on a hike. I told the girls we could collect some pine cones or other pretty things to make a wreath.

Katie kept picking up -- well, trash -- little pieces of plastic, broken bits of glass, etc.

"Treasure!" she'd yell each time she found a strand of plastic Easter grass, a piece of metallic confetti or a sequin.

She even has her sister looking out for "treasure."

Excellent.

Sharla's preschool does the same thing... with sequins. Amazing how driven the kids get over finding them.

This is our third year treasure hunting at school (and the park) and I keep wondering when it's going to run out of excitement. Livy's favorite? A park the day after a pinata...talk about a goldmine of confetti and sparkly junk. We go to play at the park and she spends the whole time on the ground picking up garbage. I like those little cups...keeps the "treasure" out of little pockets and mama's purse!

Aww. That is so cute. Isn't if fun seeing what the little ones find appealing. My daughter even will pick up dead flowers for me as long as they still have some color.

is this a girl thing? because it's rare that Ben does this. Is this what I have to look forward to with Cailin?
