I tried to explain how we were part of Britain, but decided later we wanted to be our own country. I breezed over how we fought and won our independence. She stopped me dead at that point in our discussion.
"We fought!? Fighting is not nice Mama, why did they do that?"
Cornered yet again.
Quick change the subject.
"Katie, what kind of candy do you want to throw at the parade?" I asked in my awkwardly falsetto voice. "Should we start decorating your bike?"
And, so we set off to change her princess bike into her 4th of July bike which meant by her definition: "We shouldn't see any princesses or purple or pink."
This included her helmet as well of course.

you did a fine job on that bike. looks like every inch was covered. we loved having you guys over for our little celebration. btw, how did those chocolate chips turn out?
Gosh! Your girls are so beautiful! Kids are so curious and eager to learn about everything aren't they? Happy 4th of July!
Candy is always the best distraction. Tell Katie I said her bike wins best of parade...very patriotic.
The banana/chocolate chip combo wasn't bad. We all decided a scoop of vanilla ice cream to go along with it would have made it a beyond primo dessert though.
what an awesome job you did decorating that bike, soo cute!! katie is just adorable!
looks like ya'll had a great 4th! i love how her bike turned out! so festive
Oh wow! I love the roasted bananas and chocolate chips! We're going to have to try this on our next camping trip. Looks like you all had a happy time!
